Don’t let this flower wilt…

Published by mythili at 11:07 am under Misc

Bri(ea)the life into it ! Please help revive it.

Megha Vaidya was my first roomie here in the US.  We went to KU together along with 2 other friends. In November 2002, about 2 months into her stay in US, she was diagnosed with AML Type 6. I was there when we rushed her to the oncology department at St.Luke’s, Kansas City. I held her when she was being tested for Leukemia – when inserting the crowbar like needle into her marrow. I was there when we broke her the news.  We were 4 girls (Megha, A, R and I) not knowing what to do.  We immediately alerted our student organization at KU and got some help.  We didn’t even have a car then. St.Luke’s started her treatment immediately. We were told later that hadn’t we got her admitted right then…. she would have breathed her last that very weekend.  I am not worth describing what a great person Megha is – her sweet voice entertaining us during our evenings, her luscious long hair(she had to lose all of that to chemo), her warmth, her radiant smile, most of all her strong will to live!  She had gone through a  lot of travails to make it to the US but then destiny had something else in store for her.

She was stabilized in 2 months and returned to India Dec 2002.  She fought her battle and breathed last in Sep 2004.

I can feel the pain still.  I remember her very vividly even now. I am grateful to all the generous donors who lent a helping hand and breathed life into her. She got 2 precious years because of their good deeds.  Yes! Money can buy health and happiness! May her soul rest in peace.

Supporting Bri in her battle with breast cancer.. I would like to announce this fundraiser.  Jai and Bee have dedicated this month’s Click edition to Bri. This chapter of Click focuses on yellow – the color of life.  Dear friends, you have the power. To give.  Please help the cause by participating in Click, by publicising this campaign and by donating.

This is an appeal on behalf of a group of food bloggers who are friends of Briana Brownlow @ Figs With Bri.
Bri was diagnosed with breast cancer two and half years ago. A mastectomy, chemotherapy and two years of relatively good health later, the cancer is back. It has metastasized to other parts of her body. At the age of 15, Bri lost her 41-year old mother to the disease. Now, she’s waging her own war against breast cancer. More about it here.
She is going through intensive chemo and other treatments and needs to focus single-mindedly on healing and finding what treatment works best for her. Her health insurance, unfortunately, does not cover holistic alternatives which she would like to try. Bri and her husband Marc have enough on their plates right now in addition to worrying about her medical bills.
The team organising the JUNE edition of CLICK at Jugalbandi has organised a fundraiser to help Bri and her family meet her out-of-pocket medical costs for ONE YEAR.
CLICK is a monthly theme-based photography contest hosted by Jugalbandi. This month’s theme is: YELLOW for Bri
Yellow is the colour of hope. Through the work of the LiveStrong Foundation, it has also come to signify the fight against cancer.
The entries can be viewed HERE. The deadline for entries is June 30, 2008. The fundraiser will extend until July 15, 2008.
The target amount is 12,000 U.S. dollars. We appeal to our fellow bloggers and readers to help us achieve this. Bri deserves a chance to explore all options, even if her insurance company thinks otherwise.
There’s a raffle with exciting prizes on offer. After viewing the list, you may make your donation HERE or at the Chip-In button on any participating site.
Your donation can be made securely through credit card or Pay Pal and goes directly to Bri’s account.

This month’s photo contest also has some prizes. Details HERE.
You can support this campaign by donating to the fundraiser, by participating in CLICK: the photo event, and by publicising this campaign.

    Hi Mythili -

Megha Vaidya brings back a lot of memories. I used to go to KSU around the same time and heard about Megha Vaidya during that time. You may have heard of Vidyaranya who also was diagnsoed with leukemia around the same time.
