I cooked with ‘Pedatha’ today !

Published by mythili at 11:13 pm under Chutneys,Spinach

Yes. You guessed it right. I am now the proud owner of a(n) 85-year old culinary legacy.  I recently bought the cook book titled Cooking at home with Pedatha  – Jigyasa Giri and Pratibha Jain . The book showcases the vast culinary experience and expertise of Mrs. Subhadra gaaru (referred to as Pedatha)

Read review at Mahanandi.

And what did we cook today, you ask? Spinach Pachadi. Now readers with acute observation would have already noticed that  I *hate* pureed/ground spinach.  I hate ”saags” of all types, palak paneer and the likes. An anomaly I am. I know.  Then something happened. The narration and recipe in the book jonesed me to try out Spinach (palakoora) chutney. Needless to say it came out awesome and I was surprised at the results. Check for yourself.

Does it look like an angel? Any body?

The procedure was fairly easy…. with Spinach being the main ingredient. This recipe is the first recipe of the first section in the book.

6 cups of chopped Spinach

Sesame seeds, curry leaves, black gram, green chillies, asafoetida, fenugreek seeds, red chillies, mustard seeds.

Final product with Ghee on the side.

So isn’t mouth watering? I will post the recipe soon. Meanwhile grab a copy at Indira’s e-bay sale. Check out Mahanandi (http://nandyala.org/mahanandi)

 Take care you all.
